South River Jewel
A failed shower rebuilt as a richly detailed emerald-and-gold retreat, combining careful remediation, precise waterproofing and large-format tile work.
South River Jewel began as a repair to a failed tile installation and became a full technical rebuild. The work combined demolition, substrate correction, waterproofing, heated-floor integration and exacting tile layout while preserving elements that could be responsibly reused.
The finished shower uses deep emerald tile, warm metal accents and carefully placed lighting to emphasize the handmade surface variation. Behind the finish, the assembly was rebuilt around proven waterproofing and movement-management practices intended to give the room a far more durable second life.
The project received the 2025 TTMAC Hardsurface Awards Judges Award of Merit, credited by TTMAC to Schluter Systems & WNA Tile & Design.
